A self-confessed seafood glutton that I am, I'd rather miss my spa than a visit to Dampa-Kainan. Hahaha! Imagining Dampa is like having those lobsters, crabs, shrimps and fishes of different types floating on my head like a halo. Hahaha!
Thinking of this place makes someone complain about driving too far or being at the back of the steering-wheel in the middle of traffic in EDSA. One may think its too far that even for the sake of a delicious "ginataang-hipon' or 'adobong-pusit' or for a grilled tuna-belly, they'd rather stay home. Well, here's a very good news to homebodies, there's now a number of Dampa-kainan that you can visit.
For those located in the South of Metro Manila, Dampa-Seaside-Alabang opened last June of 2010. Unlike other Dampa-kainan, this location offers not as many restaurants but the quality of the services, food and cleanliness is definitely not less than the others. There is also a live band available at the back of each resto that opens around 6pm onward. You can take the EDSA route and go right to BF Homes Paranaque. Enter the subdivision until you reach the back exit. You might not see it right away for its not located right next to the road, aside from the fact that there are lots of trees and tall grasses that hides the place. Bringing a private car or hiring a cab is much comfortable, otherwise, one may be force to hike because its a little farther the main highway.
One of the famous Dampa-kainan is in Diosdado-Macapagal Blvd. This is the biggest kainan by land area and have the most number of restaurants and bars. If your driving in EDSA from the North - you turn right to WAVE until you reach the intersection of Macapagal and HK Sun Plaza Access road. Then, turn to the right until you reach the series of restaurants down the road. If you are coming from the South, there is a u-turn slot right in front of Heritage Hotel-EDSA.
Another Dampa-kainan is located in Libis, Quezon City, before you reach Eastwood. This is if you are coming from the South. Just like in Alabang, the place is quiet small for the Q.C. crowd but its still serve same quality of food. Same goes to Dampa-kainan in San Miguel by the Bay or also known as Seaside Blvd. in SM Mall of Asia.
My love of seafood and singing are well-satisfied by Dampa-kainan. Not only I get to eat but I can sing-my-lungs out as well, may it be in a private room where I can pretend I am a famous Diva or in the presence of other diners. What made Dampa famous is not limited to serving seafoods. You can either order a ready-to-eat food or you can choose the menu, recipe and you can buy the ingredients by yourself in a small but clean wet market in one corner of the huge area.
